| Name: | Ducky |
|---|
![]() | Character: Duck / Princess Tutu Series: Princess Tutu Version: Anime Age: 13 Gender: Female Sexuality: Straight Appearance: All things being equal, Duck is just a little, yellow duck. She’s cute, with fluffy down and big, expressive eyes, but in the end, she’s just a duck. However, all things are not necessarily equal. Around Duck’s neck hangs a magic pendant, a simple magenta stone on a gold chain. The pendant itself does not look like much, but its effects are definitely evident in Duck’s appearance. Wearing the pendant allows Duck to become a human girl, with large, blue eyes and orange hair, tied back in a long braid. She looks very young, about twelve or thirteen, and has not yet developed anything that could be called a curve, which, being that she aspires to be a ballerina, is not a bad thing. Duck will appear in Paixao wearing her school uniform, which is light gray with blue trim and a wide, puffed skirt and a white dicky. The uniform includes a long sleeved coat, with puffed shoulders to match the skirt. She also wears plain, white ankle-socks and black shoes. |
Aside from turning her into a normal human girl, the pendant also enables another transformation. When danger rears it’s ugly head, or when there is a heart that needs mending, Duck transforms to become the fabled Princess Tutu. Princess Tutu’s costume consists of a simple, white tutu with arm puffs and a pink, English-classical underskirt, complimented by gold bracelets and a crown, as well as transparent yellow wings and blue streamers bursting forth from the back of her bodice. When in the form of Princess Tutu, Duck’s pendant becomes a large, flat shape, like a dragonfly lighted on top of a crescent and made of gold and rubies. Duck’s hair becomes short-cropped and is frosted in fluffy white. The outfit is completed by pink toe-shoes to match the underskirt.
Personality:
Duck was chosen to become Princess Tutu because of her selflessness. Though she wants nothing more than to be a human girl and a ballerina, she was willing to give up any hope of either, and even put her own life on the line, to protect and aid the Prince that had declared his intention to marry her rival. That’s just the kind of person that Duck is, putting the desires of everyone and anyone ahead her own. Duck is an optimist in general and with people is always ready to give them the benefit of the doubt, believing that everyone is basically good deep down in their hearts and if they could just be reminded of the things they really care about, they’ll make the right choice.
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths:
Tutu’s powers mainly revolve around repairing hearts and feelings. Literally, not figuratively. Her pendant, aside from transforming her, also detects problems with people’s hearts (emotional/personality/free-will/lack-of-heart/too-much-heart problems, not palpitations). Her main power as Princess Tutu is the ability to return shattered pieces of hearts to these people, or to purify the hearts of those who have been possessed. She is able to defend herself, but for the most part has no way of attacking a foe. Her main method for defeating an opponent is in opening their hearts and causing them to remember their true feelings and dreams, at which point they become so overwhelmed with emotion and a strong sense of hope that they stop fighting. It seems to work most of the time. When that fails, or when she has to chase somebody down, she also has the ability to call forth vines that will bend to her will by using the mime for blocking. A myriad of pink flowers may also be called forth by performing the ‘Waltz of Flowers’ in order to cushion a fall or just create a huge, flying pillar of flowers.
Weaknesses:
Princess Tutu can be hurt and injured just like any person. When she is seriously injured, she will generally revert back to her duck form, making her even more vulnerable. If Duck forgets herself and behaves in a duck-like manner (like accidentally quacking), she will also be returned to her duck form and have to seek out water to change herself back into a human girl. If Duck looses her pendant somehow, she will be unable to become Princess Tutu or even a human girl.
History:
Duck was an ordinary girl living in a little city in the Black Forest until one day she realized that she was a duck. Though this may seem like the sort of thing one would notice earlier, Duck wore a magical pendant that changed her into a human girl and did not actually remember anything before she’d come to live and train at her school of ballet. It wasn’t that she had amnesia or some startling loss of memory, she simply didn’t remember anything happening before the story started. And that was why. Because she was living in a story.
The story was several centuries old, but it had never been finished because the author had been killed before completing it by an organization within the town that feared his strange power of turning stories into reality. Their fears may have been well-placed since the author was also obsessed with tragedies and refused to write a happy ending to any of his stories. Duck discovered that her role in the unfinished story was that of Princess Tutu, a character that only appeared briefly in the original text, disappearing into a speck of light after declaring her love to the Prince.
At the not-end of the story, the Prince was forced to shatter his own heart into pieces to seal the evil Raven away. Hundreds of years later, when the author is trying to finally complete his story, Duck is given the power to become Princess Tutu so that she can return the shattered pieces of the Prince’s heart to him and give him the strength to vanquish the Raven for good.
Through much struggle Tutu did manage to return the Prince’s heart to him and help him to slay the Raven, even knowing that when the story ended, she would have to return to being just a normal duck again. Despite her own longing to continue being a human girl, Duck gave up her pendant, which she found out was the last piece of the Prince’s shattered heart, and with it gave up the ability to become human.
Since the end of the story, Duck has lived, as a normal pet duck, with the Prince’s knight, Fakir until one day she arrived in Paixao, mysteriously wearing a new pendant around her neck...
